HCLTech selected as IT transformation partner by Neste
HCLTech has been appointed as a strategic IT partner by Neste, the Finnish producer of sustainable aviation fuel and renewable diesel, as the energy company pursues a broad operational performance improvement programme.
The engagement will see HCLTech take responsibility for IT service consolidation, efficiency improvements and building what both companies describe as a more agile, scalable technology capability. Financial terms and the duration of the initial contract were not disclosed.
The deal
Neste CFO Eeva Sipilä said the partnership is central to simplifying the company's IT landscape and maintaining business continuity while it refocuses on its core renewables business. "Our initial priority is to drive efficiency and maintain business continuity," she said. "We look forward to building a solid foundation and a long-term collaboration to deliver Neste's business goals."
Ajay Bahl, Chief Growth Officer for Energy and Manufacturing at HCLTech, described the agreement as supporting a more efficient operating model in line with the shifting demands of the global energy sector. HCLTech will manage the transition before moving to ongoing service delivery, though no specific technology stack, headcount figures or migration timelines were included in the announcement.
Neste reported revenue of EUR 19.0 billion in 2025 and holds production capacity spread across three continents, with an expected output of 6.8 million tonnes of renewable fuels annually by 2027. The company is listed on NASDAQ Helsinki.
Market context
The outsourcing of large-scale IT operations to global technology services firms has become a common lever for energy and industrials companies looking to reduce overhead while accelerating digital transformation. Competitors to HCLTech in this space, including Infosys, Wipro and Capgemini, have each pursued multi-year managed-services contracts with European energy majors over the past several years, making the sector a contested but strategically important vertical.
For HCLTech, which reported consolidated revenues of $14.7 billion for the twelve months ending March 2026, the Neste engagement adds a prominent renewables name to a client roster that already spans manufacturing, life sciences and financial services. The company employs more than 227,000 people across 60 countries.
The broader context for this deal is a period of strategic contraction at Neste, which has faced margin pressure in its renewables business amid shifting subsidy regimes and feedstock cost volatility across European markets.
