SS Innovations International (NASDAQ: SSII) has published a progress update showing its SSi Mantra surgical robotic system has now completed 14,103 procedures across its installed base of 238 units worldwide, representing a 79% increase in procedures and a 42% rise in installations compared with the end of 2025. The figures, current as of 8 September 2026, underscore the pace of commercial uptake the company has achieved since entering markets outside its home territory of India.

The update covers a cluster of milestones spanning the July-to-September period, including new country installations, a record-setting telesurgery demonstration, and growing adoption in the paediatric surgery segment.

Global expansion and regulatory outlook

SS Innovations launched its Colombian operations on 29 July 2026, when founder and chief executive Sudhir Srivastava performed what the company describes as the country's first totally endoscopic beating-heart bypass surgery using the SSi Mantra at La Fundación Cardiovascular de Colombia in Bucaramanga. On 23 August, Kings Hospital Colombo in Sri Lanka installed the first SSi Mantra unit in that country, and the system was subsequently used for more than 25 procedures within its first three weeks, including the country's first robotic-assisted cardiac surgery. The Sri Lanka installation brings the SSi Mantra's global footprint to 12 countries.

On the regulatory front, the company said it expects the US Food and Drug Administration to complete its 510(k) premarket notification review for the SSi Mantra by the end of Q1 2027, and believes EU CE marking can be secured before the end of 2026. Clearance in these two major markets would be a significant commercial catalyst, as the SSi Mantra currently has no approved presence in either the US or Europe despite its broad deployment across Asia and Latin America.

Telesurgery and paediatric milestones

On 29 July 2026, a surgical team led by Srivastava conducted what the company says is the longest-distance robotic telesurgery on record: a sleeve gastrectomy performed remotely from Colombia on a patient in Indore, India, covering more than 13,600 miles of fibre network distance. The previous record was also held by SS Innovations. As of 31 August 2026, the company had completed 188 robotic telesurgeries in total.

In paediatric robotics, on 14 August a surgeon at Hindusthan Hospital in Coimbatore, India, performed a robotic pyeloplasty on a 45-day-old infant using the SSi Mantra's 5-millimetre instrumentation. The company reported the patient recovered rapidly. Cumulative paediatric procedures with the system reached 258 as of 31 August 2026.

The company also reported that on 15 August, five SSi Mantra units at Mohak Bariatrics and Robotics in Indore completed 50 robotic general surgery procedures in a single day, a utilisation benchmark it says demonstrates the platform's scalability. Approximately 1,500 surgeons have now been trained on the system, which supports more than 170 procedure types.

Market context

The surgical robotics market remains dominated by Intuitive Surgical's da Vinci platform, which had an installed base of several thousand units globally as of its most recent filings. SS Innovations positions the SSi Mantra as a lower-cost alternative aimed at healthcare systems in emerging markets where da Vinci pricing is prohibitive. A number of other entrants, including CMR Surgical with its Versius system, are pursuing a similar affordability-led strategy, particularly in Asia and the Middle East. How SS Innovations differentiates on clinical outcomes, service infrastructure, and total cost of ownership will be critical as competition in this segment intensifies. The pending US and EU regulatory decisions represent the clearest near-term test of whether the platform can break into markets where incumbent competition is strongest.
