Nokia and BeeHealthy deploy network-based verification in healthcare
Nokia has signed a commercial agreement with BeeHealthy, the digital healthcare SaaS platform owned by Finnish private healthcare group Mehiläinen, to integrate network-based identity verification into BeeHealthy's patient and professional applications. The deal makes BeeHealthy the first healthcare-sector commercial customer for Nokia's Network as Code platform.
Under the arrangement, Nokia's technology replaces SMS one-time passcodes with a silent, background number verification process at log-in and appointment booking. The company says the check typically completes in under a second and requires no manual input from the user, reducing friction at the point of access while strengthening security.
What the integration covers
Beyond basic number verification, the companies are embedding several additional network API capabilities into BeeHealthy's apps. SIM Swap and Number Recycling detection is included to guard against account-takeover fraud and keep patient registries current. Location Verification will support appointment management and is positioned as a tool to reduce missed appointments. A KYC Match function will validate new-user identities against trusted network data during onboarding in selected markets.
Nokia and BeeHealthy are also exploring Quality on Demand, a latency-prioritisation API that could support premium video consultation services. No timeline was given for that feature's deployment.
BeeHealthy chief executive Oskari Eskola said the integration was intended to make access "both simple and secure," allowing the platform to offer a faster experience while reinforcing trust for the healthcare providers and insurers it serves. Nokia's VP of Network Monetization Platform, Shkumbin Hamiti, framed the deal as evidence that network capabilities can be turned into commercial services in regulated industries with demanding requirements around security, privacy, and trust.
Market context
The agreement sits within a broader effort by Nokia to commercialise its Network as Code platform through enterprise vertical use cases. The company announced a series of new and expanded partnerships in the field at MWC26 earlier in 2026, spanning sectors from finance to digital commerce. Healthcare is a logical extension: the industry's regulatory obligations around patient data and identity create a strong commercial case for verified, network-level authentication that sidesteps the well-documented vulnerabilities of SMS-based one-time passcodes, including SIM-swap fraud and SS7 interception.
The GSMA's Open Gateway initiative, which provides the standardised API framework underpinning tools such as Number Verification, has been gaining traction with operators across Europe and the Gulf. For mobile network operators participating in Nokia's Network as Code marketplace, deals like this one represent a new revenue stream from APIs that were previously treated as internal infrastructure rather than billable enterprise services.
BeeHealthy's footprint spans Finland, Sweden, Germany, Estonia, the Netherlands, and the UAE, which means the integration will need to comply with the data protection regimes of multiple jurisdictions, including GDPR across EU markets and the UAE's Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021 on personal data protection. Neither company addressed cross-border regulatory compliance in the release.
The partnership is one of a small but growing number of telecoms-healthcare integrations seeking to move identity and access management away from legacy SMS mechanisms. Wider adoption will depend on operator participation in the Network as Code marketplace and on healthcare regulators in each market accepting network-based verification as a compliant authentication method.
